It was a bright and sunny April morning when Randy woke up with a big smile on his face. Today was Randy’s 18th birthday. He wasn’t going to let anything ruin his big day. Randy got dressed and walked down the hallway from his room to see a big breakfast waiting for him on the table, it was his favorite; eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast with raspberry jelly.
After breakfast he went to take a shower and get ready for his party. He put on a pair of shorts and his favorite t-shirt ad made he looked nice for his birthday. Around 1 o’clock the first to arrive was his grandparents followed by his aunt and uncle and the rest of his family. Everyone went outside for a barbeque to celebrate Randy’s birthday. After everyone ate they all sat around while Randy opened his presents. He got some clothes from his grandparents, a watch from his uncle and some videos and stuff for his car from his parents.
When randy was done opening present they had cake and ice cream. Everyone then hung out at Randy’s house for the rest of the night. At about 7:30 everyone started to leave and when everyone was finally gone Randy decided to go to the store and buy a lottery ticket. This was something that Randy said he was going to do the second he turned 18.
Later the next day Randy went on the computer to check the numbers and see if he may have won the lottery, which he knew, was nearly impossible so he didn’t have his hopes up. He looked at the computer and read the numbers; 4, 16, 7, 29, 55. Then he read his ticket’s numbers; 4, 16, 7, 29, 55. He took a second look at the computer then at the ticket he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, he had just won the lottery, he had 3.2 million dollars coming his way. Randy realized he was set for life. Like he said, nothing was going to ruin his birthday.

Football ABC Poem
Although there’s a rain storm outside,
Bleachers are full,
Coats are worn by adoring fans,
Defending their bodies against the rain,
Everyone is on their feet watching the game,
Full of mud the players run up and down the 100 yard mud pit,
Half-time finally comes,
Inside goes the football team trying to warm up before the 2nd half,
Joining them is their coaches to talk to them about the 1st half,
Kids sitting on benches,
Looking at each other trying to find water,
Minutes later the coaches arrive to the locker room,
“Now is the time where we can’t give up. We are up by 2 touchdowns”,
Outside the rain is still coming down by the bucket full,
Pacing throughout the locker room the boys start to get geared up for the 2nd half,
Quickly they strap their helmets back on,
Running back down to the field they re-cover themselves in mud,
Slipping and sliding while they stretch,
Ten minutes later a horn goes off,
Upon the boys was another 2nd half of football,
Winning was the end result,
X was the play that won it all,
You couldn’t even imagine the excitement on the field,
Zooming back to the bench, the captains grab the water to pour on the coach.

Ode to Summer
The greatest time of the year
The time of no worries,
Just fun.
The time when pools are full
And so are the lines at the creemee stands.
The time when your biggest decision is,
Sneakers or flip flops
The time when school,
Is the last thing on your mind.
The time when your homework,
Is to sleep in as long as you can.
The time when air conditioning,
Is your new best friend.
The time when I can finally say,
Thank god it’s summer!
The time of no worries,
Just fun.
The time when pools are full
And so are the lines at the creemee stands.
The time when your biggest decision is,
Sneakers or flip flops
The time when school,
Is the last thing on your mind.

Thank god it’s summer!
Football Free Verse

The feeling of the sun beating down on you,
Running rapidly for hours in the 80 degree weather
Putting all you can into a sport you love.
Watching as your sweat drips from your forehead
Knowing that you’re training for a battle every Saturday
Looking across the field;
Knowing that there are 11 guys that are coming after you
Getting in the trenches with some of your closest friends
Fighting each other to make yourselves better
But ending it with a handshake
All of this is worth it that one day in November
When your team raise that state championship trophy in victory.

The king lies in the sun
While swimming in a pool of money
Beautiful birds are chirping
While he snores in the pool.
Basking in the heat of the sun,
Eyes tightly closed.
A mental image sporting events

While kids play,
This is the ideal lifestyle.

Thinking of you
I think of you when i wake in the morning
And when i rest at night
You are by far;
A wonderful sight
Whenever I'm with you;
You always make me smile
So if you would;
Please just stay a while.
Winter
It's so much cold
With so much snow
Your all bundled up
With no skin to show
The ice on the ground
Reflects like a mirror
Making the slippery spots
A lot less clearer.
I think of you when i wake in the morning
And when i rest at night
You are by far;
A wonderful sight
Whenever I'm with you;
You always make me smile
So if you would;
Please just stay a while.

The Countdown
The clock is ticking,
Lots of eyes watching it eagerly.
The last week of school is finally here,
The last final is handed in.
3 months of fun in the sun is on its way.
As the students eyes stick to the clock,
Like a fly to fly paper.
The minutes tick away,
Just as slow as they possibly could.
Looking outside at the sun,
Thinking of all the better ways to spend a beautiful day,
Other than in school.
Just when it seems like time keeps dragging,
The bell rings,
Everyone races to their cars,
And race off the campus.
Summer.
Lots of eyes watching it eagerly.

The last final is handed in.

Ode to Music

A jumble of noise is what brings most of us joy.
Some think of it as art,
And some, just a toy.
There are all kinds of music.
Some is loud and heavy
Some is slow and steady,
And some is just ordinary.
Some use it to concentrate,
And some to procrastinate.
Others use it to exercise,
And some to rest their eyes.
While the drummer drums,
And the guitar player strums.
We bask in the ambience,
Without a care in the world!
Nursery Rhymes
Danny the duck,
Got stuck in the muck,
Danny said “yuck!”
While he tried to get un-stuck
He finally started to buck
And became un-stuck.
Peter the penguin,
Wore and apron
While cooking in the kitchen.
Peter and his kitten
Liked cooking food that’s finger lickin’.
Bonnie the bunny
Was very funny
All her friends would agree
Which made her totally carefree.
Marty the monkey
Was very hairy
And liked to eat honey,
Unlike any other monkey
When he was hungry.
Got stuck in the muck,
Danny said “yuck!”
While he tried to get un-stuck
He finally started to buck
And became un-stuck.

Common Winter Cress (Nature Poem)
Its yellow petals compliment the yellow sun on a beautiful spring day.
The wind gently whistles through its leafs.
The flower sways back and forth with the rhythm of the wind.
Each small petal is a warm welcoming to spring.
The egg shaped leafs on the stem,
helps the flowers natural beauty shine.
The wind gently whistles through its leafs.
The flower sways back and forth with the rhythm of the wind.
Each small petal is a warm welcoming to spring.
The egg shaped leafs on the stem,
helps the flowers natural beauty shine.

Luther (my dog)
He lays in the sun
Basking in all of its heat
His eyes tightly closed
As he snores like an old man

The ideal lifestyle
Just one mental image away
Trees growing money
Summer
Natures light heats earth
Birds chirping while kids play
Swimming in a pool
Picnics and football games
What else could a person want!

Snow Free Write
Last night there was so much snow at my house it was crazy. The snow was almost up to my knees so by the time I walked from my driveway into my house my shoe was filled to the top with snow. One of the worse things was going outside to clean the snow off my car. It was like finding a needle in a hay stack. There was probably a good foot and a half covering my car. Which makes me thankful to have a big dog because if I had a smaller dog I’d let him outside to go to the bathroom then wait for the snow to melt in order to find him. Which makes me think back to the days before I got my license and my parents had to bring me to work after we got a big storm and we got stuck in the driveway, which wasn’t very good because I had to go in early in order to help the maintenance guy shovel. Whenever I go in early to shovel or do anything other doing dishes in the kitchen it makes me think back to the summer time when I was working during the week on the maintenance team. I did everything from painting peoples apartments to landscaping around the retirement home campus. I loved doing the landscaping because I thought it was fun to mow the lawn and go around with the tractor and trim all of the hedges. Mowing the lawn made me think about my grandpa’s camp because when I was younger my grandpa and I would go to his camp and help him mow the lawn because I loved going to the camp because it was away from everything so you could do whatever you want.
Ars Poetica
Poetry is a way to express your emotions through the art of writing. Poetry is the democracy of writing because it has really no structure to it, you are just free to write whatever you would like however you would like. When people write poetry it is pretty much just spontaneous feelings coming out through their words. Poetry can tell you a lot about a person, it can tell you if they are a happy or sad person, what they like to do and what sort of imagination they have. Most of poetry is established by having a really good and creative imagination because you need to be able to take your thoughts and images in your head and turn them into words that are able to fit together like a puzzle. So I me poetry is the act of turning spontaneous feelings and thoughts into words.

Rough Morning
Waking up in the morning to the sound of an alarm. Eyes barely open, Charlie ignores his alarm and dozes off again. He wakes up a half hour later to the sight of the big yellow bus passing his house.
The Perfect Plan
Writing wasn’t his strongest area. He sat, staring at the computer monitor listening to music for about 15 minutes. Trying to think of different things to write about when finally, it hit him. He could write about, thinking about what to write about. That was his plan to get the grade.
Friday the 13th
Jerry woke up, looked at his phone, Friday the 13th. Jerry knew today was going to be rough. He went to school and forgot his binder at home. Then at lunch his spilled water all over himself. On the way home he got a flat tire, when he got home he thought the day couldn’t get any worse… until he lost the remote.
The computer expert
George just got home with his brand new computer. He was so excited to get on it and start surfing the web. He got everything hooked up just as he hit the power button… nothing happened. He couldn’t figure it out he looked at every connection and everything was fine, but the one connection he didn’t check was the one leading to the wall.
